Florida International University community mourns the death of a college football player Luke Knox.
The Miami school confirmed his death in a brief statement posted to the Athletics Financial Intelligence Unit’s account on August 18.
“We are saddened by the sudden departure of Luke Knox, a member of the FIU Football Programme,” tweet read. “We send our thoughts and prayers to Luke’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.”
Locke died August 17, according to the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of death was not revealed. However, the Associated Press reported that the school said police did not suspect tampering.
Luke, a budding Golden Panthers player, transferred to the FIU earlier this year from the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of the Ole Miss Rebels football team. separately greetingthe chief football coach of the Financial Intelligence Unit Mike McIntyrewho said it was “a privilege to coach Luke at the Ole Miss and FIU,” reflected the student-athlete’s dedication to the sport and his family and friends.
