Elton John I paid a tribute to tearjerking Queen Elizabeth II through the song.
Hours after Her Majesty’s death at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, the British singer took to the stage during his excursion Farewell to the yellow brick road Tour stops in Toronto, Canada, on September 8th. Addressing the crowd, Elton said: “Well of course as you know today we have received the saddest news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.”
He continued, “She was an inspiring presence to be around her and I was around her and she was amazing. She led the country through some of its greatest and darkest moments with compassion, decency, genuine care and warmth.”
During his statements, the “Little Dancer” singer reflected on the late king’s life and legacy. “I’m seventy-five – she’s been with me my whole life and I’m so sad she won’t be with me anymore,” Elton explained. “I am happy that she is at peace, I am happy that she is resting, and she deserves it because she has worked so hard.”
