Following the death of the Queen, who died on September 8 at the age of 96, the NFL observed a moment of silence before the season opener between the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium in Englewood, California. Watch the moment here.
In the baseball world, players at the New York Yankees-Minnesota Twins game on September 8 also observed a minute’s silence for the Queen, as seen in a photo at Yankee Stadium.
The honor comes after the UK branch of the NFL posted a tweet mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
“Everyone in the UK NFL is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” it said on September 8. tweet. “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the royal family.”
“We join all those who are mourning the loss of Her Majesty the Queen,” they added.
